APSATS CCPS stands for Certified Clinical Partner Specialist, a specialized certification from the Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS). A CCPS has been specially trained to treat partners of sex addicts who have been traumatized by betrayal.
APSATS created the Multidimensional Partner Trauma Model (MPTM), which supports working with the partner and the person with addictive behavior using a new orientation that dramatically shifts the perspective of how partners and addicts are viewed in the coupleship. Unlike traditional approaches that viewed partners as “codependents” or “co-addicts,” APSATS believes very strongly that partners had no idea that the sex addict was betraying them and did not collude with the sex addict in any way.
To become a CCPS, licensed clinicians must complete a 4-day APSATS MPTM Certification Training program, followed by 30 hours of consultation supervision and 125 hours of face-to-face therapy with partners of sex addicts. Certification is designed to take place no earlier than 9 months and must be completed within a 2-year period after taking the training.
