Heal with EMDR in Pearland and Across Texas
I am Leah Gillam, LCSW-S, APSATS CCPS. I help adults and older teens heal from trauma, anxiety, and depression. I offer EMDR therapy in Pearland and by telehealth across Texas.
My style is calm, warm, and direct. We work as a team. You set the pace and the goals.
What Is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a research-supported therapy for trauma and stress. EMDR helps the brain process painful memories so they feel less intense.
During EMDR, you focus on a memory while using eye movements, taps, or tones. This “bilateral stimulation” helps the brain reprocess stuck material. Many people feel more calm and clear after EMDR.
How EMDR Can Help
- Reduce triggers and panic
- Ease anxiety, depression, and shame
- Update negative beliefs about self
- Improve sleep and focus
- Build resilience and self-trust
What Sessions Look Like
We start with history and goals. We build coping skills before we begin reprocessing. When ready, we target memories one at a time.
- Prepare and learn calming skills
- Identify targets and beliefs
- Reprocess with eye movements, taps, or tones
- Install new, balanced beliefs
- Check body sensations and close the session
Who I Work With
I support people who have lived through:
- Single-incident trauma and PTSD
- Childhood or complex trauma
- Anxiety, depression, and stress
- Grief and medical trauma
- Car accidents or assaults
- Betrayal trauma and relational wounds
As an APSATS Certified Clinical Partner Specialist (CCPS), I also help partners heal after betrayal. We focus on safety, clarity, and steady support.
My Approach
Therapy should feel safe and respectful. I keep a steady pace and explain each step. You have a say in every plan.
I blend EMDR with other tools when helpful:
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques
- Mindfulness and grounding practices
- Experiential resources you can use at home
Telehealth for All Texas Residents
You can meet from home or work. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform (SimplePractice). You can switch between in-person and video as needed.
Sessions are by appointment only. Rates and policies are the same for both formats. You do not need to live near Pearland to start telehealth.
Is Telehealth a Good Fit?
- You have a private space
- You have a stable internet connection
- You prefer less travel and more flexibility
Your First Session
We talk about your history and goals. We make a plan that fits your needs. We also cover coping skills for between sessions.

Common Questions
How many EMDR sessions will I need?
Length varies by person and history. Some see change in a few sessions. Others need more time for complex trauma.
Will EMDR make me relive my trauma?
We work with care and skills in place. You stay in the present while we process past events. Some discomfort can arise, but we move at a steady, safe pace.
Do you only do EMDR?
No. I tailor treatment to you. We can use DBT, CBT, mindfulness, or other tools.
Do you see teens?
Yes. I see older teens and adults, in person or by telehealth.
Take the Next Step
Reaching out can feel hard. You do not have to do this alone. Call or email to schedule a consultation and see if EMDR is right for you.
